Walton, NY – Today, Sheriff Craig S. DuMond announced the arrest of a Sidney resident for driving while intoxicated, as well as a Maryland Resident for driving with a suspended New York State Driver’s License.

On Monday night, March 13th, 2023, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a one car motor vehicle accident with injuries on State Highway 206, near Davis Road in the Town of Walton. Deputies arrived on scene and observed a vehicle had left the roadway, struck a tree, ultimately coming to rest. Deputies made contact with the driver, 41-year-old Christine Falsetta of Sidney NY.

Upon completion of the investigation, Sheriff’s Deputies arrested and charged Christine Falsetta with driving while ability impaired by drugs, a misdemeanor, Aggravated Unlicensed Operator in the First Degree, a felony, as well as Unlicensed Operator, and Moved from lane unsafely, violations in the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.

Upon completion of arrest processing, Falsetta was released on tickets returnable to the Town of Walton Court at a later date. Falsetta was released to a third party identified as 49-year-old Shawn Smith of Sidney NY. A check of Smith’s driver’s license revealed that his driver’s license was suspended in the State of New York.

Deputies subsequently arrested Smith and issued him uniformed traffic tickets for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree, as well as Failing to turn in his NYS License to DMV, both unclassified misdemeanors, and Unlicensed Operator, a violation of the New York State vehicle and traffic law. Smith released on the uniformed traffic tickets and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Walton Court at a later date to answer the charges.
