DELHI, NY – Acting District Attorney Shawn Smith announced today that Jessica Furman, 40, formerly of Hancock, New York, appeared in Delaware County Court on November 13, 2023, and pleaded guilty to Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, a Class D Felony.

Furman appeared before the Honorable Gary A. Rosa, Acting Delaware County Court Judge, on Monday November 13, 2023, and pleaded guilty to the top charge, Grand Larceny in the Third Degree.

Prior to pleading guilty, the defendant admitted that she was the manager of a Dollar General store in Hancock New York, and she became addicted to gambling.  The defendant stated that she deposited approximately $41,000.00 into her personal bank account instead of the store’s bank account, with the idea that she would gamble it and then repay the store with the winnings.  “I had an addiction, I needed money, and I thought I could win it back and then repay the store” the defendant stated. The defendant lost all of that money gambling, and Dollar General was out $41,000.00.

The Honorable Gary A. Rosa sentenced the defendant to five years of felony probation supervision, and further ordered her to repay $43,050.00 to Dollar General within 54 months.  Failure to repay that restitution will result in a violation of probation which subjects the defendant to a potential state prison sentence of 2 and 1/3 to 7 years.

Acting District Attorney Shawn Smith commended Officer Natasha Picozzi and Sergeant Daniel Petersen of the Village of Hancock Police Department for their outstanding work investigating this case.
