2019 Home Economics Education Fair Exhibit Winners at the 133rd Annual Delaware County Fair

Annually Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Executive Director and Fair Committee members select and invite those businesses and services that align with Extension’s education mission to exhibit at the Delaware County Fair. Judges Gale Sheridan, Anne Lepinnet, and Betsy Weidenbach, along with the Home Economics Fair Committee found the 2019 Home Economics Education Exhibits to be very exciting and full of stopping power.   These judges found it a challenge to rank the exhibits as each did a great job of presenting information and telling their story clearly, legibly, and visually.

Exhibits by Kortright Handworks @ La Basse Cour, Elsewhere Farm and As You Wish Designs featured unique business local specialties and products for the consumer and family. Delaware County Substance Use Prevention Task Force gave community members information about addiction recovery and Food & Health Network exhibit educated the public about Farm to School efforts in Sidney, NY.

** FIRST PLACE Blue & Exhibit Excellence Blue Ribbons went to Elsewhere Farms for their step-by-step instructions on growing microgreens in the home. Microgreens are edible seedlings harvested at the seed leaf (cotyledon) stage.

** SECOND PLACE Red and Exhibit Excellence Blue Ribbons went to Sidney Central School and the Southern Tier Food and Health Network for their Farm to Table program at the school, including community/school gardens, Garden Club, Aquaponics composting and taste tests of healthy snacks in the classroom with Extension’s Eat Smart NY/EFNEP programs.

** THIRD PLACE White and Exhibit Excellence Red Ribbons went to As You Wish Designs for their display on direct to garment printing, dye sublimation and laser cutter 3D printing. This business can design party supplies, cake boxes, steam table supplies, and personalized novelty gifts.

** FOURTH PLACE Honorable Mention Green Ribbon and red ribbon went to La Basse Cour for their creative display on creating a fiber shed and finished goods through crocheting, knitting and weaving.

** FIFTH PLACE Red and Honorable Mention Green Ribbons went to Delaware County Public Health Services for an exhibit on the Journey to Recovery sponsored by the Delaware County Substance Use Prevention Task Force. Information on vaping, opioid abuse, opioids and drugs of abuse were featured in the exhibit along with peer recovery support and services.
