Saturday May 4th – Headwaters History Days Event

Saturday, May 4, 2019 from 2 – 4 pm, the Andes Public Library is hosting a Headwaters History Days Event as part of the Andes Bicentennial Celebration. All are welcome to attend this free event featuring poems, stories, and songs, musical interludes and light refreshments.  John Jacobson will read from his memories of farming and a landscape changed by the Pepacton Reservoir. Buffy Calvert will read a short story “Clash” about the Anti-Rent War.  The library is located at 242 Main Street in Andes.  Call 845-676-3333 for more information.

 

May 6 – June 16 (Six Monday Workshops, skipping Memorial Day)Writers in the Mountains: The Music is All Around Us with Sharon Ruetenik

On Mondays between 6 to 8 pm between May 6th and June 16th (skipping Memorial Day), Writers in the Mountains is holding a six-week writing workshop “The Music is All Around Us” led by Sharon Ruetenik at the Andes Public Library, located at 242 Main Street in Andes. This class, suitable for both beginners and experienced participants, will explore the many external sources of inspiration available to us as writers, poets, and artists. Each week the instructor will provide examples and prompts, such as advertisements, posters, photographs, paintings, music, film, and scraps of conversation. This workshop focuses on the task of the poet to notice everything and claim it for his/her own. Work will be shared so that participants can learn from one another. Workshop registration is $85. Friday, May 17th – Andes Bicentennial Old Fashioned Barn Dance at Andes Central School

Friday, May 17th, young and old are invited to attend an Andes Bicentennial Old Fashioned Dinner and Barn Dance at the Andes Central School auditorium. The ACS Junior class will be providing a chili dinner, hot dogs, vegetarian options and refreshments priced ala carte beginning at 5:30 with dinner proceeds to benefit the class of 2020. The extraordinary Homespun musical trio, Peter, Paul, and George will be on hand starting around 6:30 pm to provide old timey music and will teach the participants dances from around the world. The event is sponsored by the Andes Public Library and is made possible by a Youth Grant from the O’Connor Foundation. Admission is free, but any donations made at the bake sale table will benefit the Andes Public Library Summer Reading and youth programs. Thursday, May 30 – Combatting the Opioid Crisis with Narcan Training at the Andes Library

On Thursday, May 30th at 6:00 pm, the Andes Public Library will be hosting a free, open to the public Naloxone (Narcan) Training. Each participant in the training will learn to recognize, respond to and reverse a suspected opioid overdose using naloxone. Free rescue kits will be provided. The grant funded program is sponsored by Delaware County Public Health and FOR-DO (Friends of Recovery of Delaware and Otsego) in an effort to combat the continuing rise in opioid related deaths in our area. Sunday, June 2nd – Annual Andes Library Community Party

Friends and neighbors of the Andes Public Library are invited to attend the Annual Community Party to be held Sunday, June 2nd from 2:00 to 5:00 pm.
