Networks

DTC has been in the networking business since 1897 when we brought the first telephone services to the area. Our entrance into data networking was initially for internal use only, and (unlike many) started with wide area network (WAN) access and added local area networking (LAN) as PCs became more popular and prices fell.

Our first public data-networking project was our dial up bulletin board system (BBS) in 1994. In 1996 we partnered with Margaretville Telephone to form Catskill On Line and began providing dial up Internet access early in 1997. DTC Networking continues to maintain the backbone network for Catskill On Line and brings that experience to our other network clients.

DTC Networking installed our internal firewall / virtual private network (VPN) units in 1998 to connect 2 sites in New York and 3 sites in New Hampshire. Our first commercial firewall / VPN installation occurred in 2000. To date we have VPN nodes installed across southern New York.

LAN

Ever wonder when to use a hub vs. switch vs. router in or for your network ?? We don't. We have installed all of the above for clients and connected them with UTP, Thin and Thick coax, fiber, and wireless.

Give us a call; we would like to be your one stop shop. Alternatively we will do consulting if you have a preferred vendor, or if you've had your network designed by someone else. In these cases, let us price installation and maintenance for you.

WAN

Our point-to-point network experience includes working with equipment from Cisco and Lucent; and bandwidths of 56kbps ISDN, fractional T1, T1 (and balanced T1s), DS3, OC3, and OC12.

VPN installations have used appliances from different vendors and "roll our own" depending on the client's requirements.

Contact us to discuss your wide area networking needs. We don't mind traveling!
